Traction motor and wheel work for Western Maryland Scenic Railroad EMD GP30 and F40PH locomotives.
The Western Maryland Scenic Railroad (WMSR) is a heritage railroad that operates through beautiful Allegheny Mountains from Cumberland, Maryland.
In 2021 they had the McHugh Company on-site to provide services to three of the heritage rail lines diesel locomotives. A team of 6 McHugh service technicians arrived in Cumberland, MD on a Monday morning with all the necessary equipment, required components, and labor, to preform multiple projects. This included removing the truck assemblies from GP30 No. 502 for rebuilding, replacing two traction motors in each truck assembly from GP30 No. 501 and to replace an axle wheel set assembly from F40PH No. 450. Numerous other necessary general repairs to the locomotives were completed as well, and the No. 501 and No. 450 were returned back to service that Friday afternoon.
WMSR’s Executive Director – Wesley Heinz was quoted at a recent railroad event that included freight, industrial, and heritage railroader’s from around the country, that was held at Cumberland MD in March 2022. “It was amazing to watch how the McHugh Team safely and professionally completed these task for us, I would highly recommend the McHugh Company to anyone that needs assistance with maintenance or requires components and parts for their locomotive fleet.”
