A very rare Westinghouse 928-A traction motor.
In 2012 McHugh Locomotive & Equipment was contracted by the historic 3-foot gauge Georgetown Loop Railroad to re-manufacture five rare Westinghouse 928-A traction motors to O.E. M. specifications that also included manufacturing and supplying 6 new pinion gears. These traction motors where required for a rare 6 axle vintage 1950’s built 3-foot gauge Porter diesel locomotive. This locomotive was also equipped with obsolete style Westinghouse electrical equipment. We came through with various types of replacement electrical component parts for the rare Porter diesel locomotive.
Prior to 2013, the Georgetown Loop Railroad had various other vendors performing on-site repairs to their diesel locomotives plus providing traction motor and other electrical equipment repairs. The Colorado heritage tourist railroad was unsatisfied with the quality of their products and services. After their experience with the world class workmanship that we provided on that first order, McHugh Locomotive & Equipment became a very valued supplier to the Georgetown Loop RR, assisting them in maintaining their vintage diesel locomotive fleet.
Since then, we have repaired several pieces of rare traction equipment for the 3-foot gauge heritage railroad. This includes: GE 762 traction motors, WH 1443A traction motors, GE 733 traction motors, GE 1503 main generators. We have continued to assist this historic railroad with rebuilt parts and components, on-site and remote technical support, plus on-site service in Colorado when required for their vintage diesel locomotives.
